This webinar features Dr. Frances Flint, a faculty member in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University since 1977 and the Founding Coordinator of York University's Athletic Therapy Certificate Program. Frances is also a Canadian Red Cross First Responder and an Approved Instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.

The webinar will explore the impact of catastrophic injuries, the mechanism of mental stress, possible routes to ameliorating this stress, and suggestions for protecting the wellness of Athletic Therapists.

My 15, 2025 - The ORCCA study - Clinical Outcomes in Athletes with Cardiac Conditions


Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of sudden death in competitive athletes during sports and exercise. However, the natural history and risk profile of cardiac disorders among athletes is incompletely understood.

The collection of more complete outcomes data will improve management of athletes diagnosed with a cardiac condition, inform safe sports participation, and delineate the downstream impact of pre-participation cardiovascular screening programs. This webinar will explore the ORCCA study and the shared decision-making process and monitor cardiovascular outcomes, sports and physical activity levels, mental health, and quality of life in athletes with cardiac conditions.

This webinar features Shelby Baez, Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and Director of the Psychology of Sport Injury Laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Baez is a certified and licensed athletic trainer with expertise in the psychology of sport injury and an approved non-certified mentor for aspiring certified mental performance consultants through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP)

The webinar will explore the principles of psychologically informed practice, recommendations on psychological interventions that can be integrated to enhance patient outcomes, and how to effectively refer a patient to an appropriate mental health professional.


June 20, 2024 - Emergency Medicine as a Certified AT and First Responder

This webinar features Nancy Spence, a Certified Athletic Therapist and Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.  Nancy has over 20 years experience as a Red Cross First Aid/CPR and First Responder Instructor and has worked with community level events, competitive sports, and served on medical teams at large festival response teams.

The webinar will cover considerations on combining First Responder and/or BLS level certification care with Professional Liability Insurance coverage and the scope of practice of a Certified Athletic Therapist during both contract negotiations and during the event.
