The Power of Perspective presented by Jeff Bean, Head Coach of the Canadian Aerial Ski Team
Transitions and decisions in sport and in life. - From soaring 55 feet in the air performing quadruple twisting triple back flips and breaking a few bones along the way… To retiring from sport, becoming a father, and making a career U-turn to the banking industry…. To starting again from scratch nine years later handing in my blackberry on a Friday to the bank and landing on the side of a mountain in Finland to coach the Australia Olympic Team on a Saturday. What tools did I use to help make all these decisions and what did I learn from the mistakes I made along the way to shape those decisions? Discovering tools and ways in which to reflect before you act - What I learned along my journey!
Cannabis & the Role of the Athletic Therapist presented by Dr. Jeff Konin, Clinical Professor and Director of the DAT program at Florida International University
The past decade has seen dramatic changes with respect to cannabis laws, policies, accessibility and acceptability. Canada, in particular, has seen a boom in the availability of cannabis products. Athletes have become much more curious about what, if any, forms of cannabis can assist with their performance, sleep, recovery, and mental health. While progress has been made to better learn associated potential benefits and risks, much remains unknown. This presentation will explain the differences between the most commonly available cannabinoids (THC, CBD) and how their usage, application, and dosage impacts one’s performance as it relates to cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and neuromuscular systems. Emphasis will be placed on providing the participants/clinicians with real-time guidance that can be used to educate athletes and provide evidence-based care.
